Free Electric Heating Dunfermline

Envirohomes Renewables, a leader in the electric heating industry in Scotland, stands committed to delivering innovative and energy-efficient heating solutions. Our mission transcends the typical installation of electric heaters; we aim to significantly lower energy bills, enhance the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings of properties, and reduce the environmental carbon footprint. With an extensive portfolio of successful projects across Scotland, we have established ourselves as a reliable and reputable name in renewable home services. This reputation is bolstered by our industry-leading accreditations:

  • Qualitymark Protection
  • Gas Safe Register
  • PAS 2030 Certification

Our proficiency in handling ECO 4 grants enables us to offer fully funded services to households that meet specific criteria. The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme, an initiative of the UK government, is directed towards improving home energy efficiency, particularly aiding low-income and rural households. This aligns with the nation’s ambitions for achieving carbon neutrality.

Launched in April 2022, and slated to continue until March 31, 2026, ECO4 forms a crucial component of the government’s strategy to enhance home sustainability by 2035. It is specifically designed to offer energy-efficient solutions to vulnerable households, thereby contributing to the creation of sustainable, low-carbon homes and enhancing overall energy efficiency.

What makes ECO4 different from ECO3?

In Dunfermline, Envirohomes Renewables is committed to guiding you towards adopting eco-friendly solutions for your residence. Our aim is to streamline your experience with energy-efficient enhancements and installations. Here’s an overview of our process, supported by the Scottish government’s ECO4 funding, and our expertise in fitting environmentally friendly boilers, solar panels, insulation, and heat pumps:

What is
Electric Storage Heating?

In Dunfermline, electric storage heating offers an efficient solution for home heating, utilizing electricity during off-peak hours. This typically occurs overnight when electricity costs are lower. The heat generated during these hours is stored and then released during the day when it’s needed.

These systems are particularly advantageous in leveraging time-of-use electricity tariffs, and they are ideal for areas where alternative heating options might not be as feasible. Additionally, they are a cost-effective choice due to their higher energy efficiency compared to other heating systems.

How electric storage heaters work?

To give you an illustration of how electric storage heaters work, we’ve created a simple step-by-step guide on the process they use:

  1. Off-peak charging: During off-peak hours, usually at night, electric storage heaters draw and store electricity from the national grid. This is when electricity demand is lower, and rates are more affordable. The electricity heats a core material within the heater, typically made from ceramic bricks or similar heat-retaining substances.
  2. Heat retention: The heated material retains the warmth for extended periods. This stored heat remains within the heater until it’s needed in the home.
  3. Releasing Heat: As the day progresses and the need for warmth increases—either due to a drop in ambient temperature or the comfort requirements of the occupants—the stored heat is gradually released.
  4. Thermostat control: Modern electric storage heaters are equipped with thermostats, allowing precise control over the amount of heat released. This feature helps maintain a comfortable home environment while conserving electricity and reducing heating bills. These systems are generally more energy-efficient than other heating methods.
  5. Economy 7/ Time-of-use tariffs: These heaters often work in conjunction with special electricity tariffs, such as ‘Economy 7’ or similar plans. These tariffs provide lower rates for electricity used during off-peak hours and higher rates during peak daytime hours, encouraging electricity usage when overall demand is lower.

Who Qualifies For Free Electric Storage Heating In Scotland?

In Scotland, you’ll need to meet certain qualifying criteria to be eligible for free electric storage heaters and systems under the ECO4 scheme. These eligible households and individuals include:

Grant eligibility

    • You’re a homeowner or you’re renting from a private landlord (and have gotten the landlord’s permission).
    • If at least one resident of your household meets the following criteria:
      • Low-income households where the combined household income is less than £31,000 per year.
      • A child under the age of five years old resides in the house.
      • One of the household members is over 65 years old and is also vulnerable or suffers from certain health conditions.
    • The household lives in an area that is vulnerable to cold living conditions.
    • Your current Energy Performance Certificate or EPC rating is D, E, F, or G (this only applies to homeowners). If you’re renting, your EPC rating should be E, F, or G to quality.
    • Grant funding is usually given to homes with inefficient energy heating systems or that have poor cavity wall insulation.

Note: It’s important to remember that all homes are required to undergo an assessment to determine whether they meet the qualifying criteria.

Qualifying allowances

  • JSA:
    Income-based Job-Seekers Allowance
  • ESA:
    Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

Qualifying benefits

  • Housing benefit
  • Child benefit

Qualifying credits

  • Child Tax Credits (CTC)
  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Pension Credit Savings Credit
  • Universal Credit (UC)
  • Working Tax Credits (WTC)

What if you don't qualify for grant funding?

Even if you aren’t eligible for the previously mentioned benefits, you might still qualify for grant assistance under the Government’s ECO Scheme through various ECO4 Flex options. These options cater to a range of energy efficiency enhancements, including the installation of a new gas boiler, grants for installing central heating for the first time, insulation grants, and grants for electric heaters

What are the Advantages of Electric Storage Heating?

Electric storage heaters bring a multitude of benefits to your home, making them a smart choice for efficient heating. Here are some key advantages of choosing electric storage heating:

  • Cost-effectiveness: These heaters are economical, capitalizing on lower off-peak electricity rates. By storing heat when electricity is less expensive and releasing it during peak hours, they can significantly lower your energy bills.
  • Energy efficiency: Electric storage heaters excel in energy efficiency. By accumulating and gradually dispensing heat, they minimize the need for continuous power usage, which is a boon for reducing monthly energy expenses.
  • No gas required:
  • Electric storage heaters excel in energy efficiency. By accumulating and gradually dispensing heat, they minimize the need for continuous power usage, which is a boon for reducing monthly energy expenses.
  • Simple installation: Setting up electric storage heaters is typically uncomplicated, particularly in properties already equipped with an electrical supply.
  • Low maintenance: With fewer mechanical components than traditional heating systems, electric storage heaters require less upkeep and are less prone to malfunctions.
  • Reduced carbon emissions: If your electricity comes from renewable sources, using electric storage heaters can lead to a reduction in carbon emissions, offering an environmentally friendlier alternative to fossil fuel-based heating systems.
  • No boiler required: Unlike some heating options, electric storage heaters don’t need a boiler, eliminating high initial installation costs. This feature is especially beneficial for homes without pre-existing central heating systems.

The duration for implementing energy efficiency upgrades in a home varies based on the nature and intricacy of the improvements. Factors such as the size of the property, its layout, and specific environmental conditions also play a role in determining the timeline.

Simple energy upgrades might be completed within a few hours to a day. In contrast, more complex installations, such as ground-source heat pumps, require a longer period for complete installation and activation, compared to relatively simpler air-source heat pumps. For instance, installing cavity wall insulation typically takes about two days, whereas solid wall insulation might extend over several days to even weeks.

Eligibility for the ECO4 grant, subject to specific criteria, includes access to various energy-efficient home improvements: free boilers, solar panels, air source heat pumps, and comprehensive home insulation (encompassing loft, roof, and cavity wall insulation, along with draught-proofing).

If you’re considering applying for an ECO4 grant, the first step is to confirm your eligibility. Envirohomes Renewables simplifies this process with an online platform for quick eligibility checks.
