Our team of electric heating engineers specialises in ECO 4 grants which provide a fully funded service to households on benefits. Please see the qualification process below.

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme is a UK government initiative that is aimed at improving energy efficiency in homes by offering home improvements like free heat pumps and insulation. This is to help low-income households and rural homes, as well as boost the country’s carbon-neutral goals.

ECO4 is the latest phase in the ECO programme and was introduced in April 2022. It is set to run until March 31, 2026, and is part of the government’s long-term plan for increased sustainability in homes by 2035.

ECO4 is focused on providing energy-efficient measures to vulnerable households to create more sustainable homes with improved energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions. Ultimately, this will help to advance the plan for long-term sustainability.

What makes ECO4 different from ECO3?

The ECO4 and ECO3 schemes share similar principles, but there are some important differences that set them apart. These differences include:

What is
Electric Storage Heating?

Electric storage heating is a heating system utilizing electricity during off-peak hours, typically at night, to generate heat at lower rates. The stored heat is then released during the day as needed. This system is ideal for areas where alternative heating sources are impractical, offering a more energy-efficient option that can lead to lower energy bills.

How electric storage heaters work?

To give you an illustration of how electric storage heaters work, we’ve created a simple step-by-step guide on the process they use:

  1. Off-peak charging: These heaters charge during low-demand hours, using electricity to heat a core material, typically made of ceramic bricks or other heat-retaining substances..
  2. Heat retention: The heated material retains heat for extended periods, making it available when needed.
  3. Controlled Heat release: As the day progresses, the stored heat is gradually released to warm the home.
  4. Thermostat control: Modern units come with thermostats, allowing residents to control heat release efficiently.
  5. Economy 7/ Time-of-use tariffs: These heaters work well with tariffs offering lower rates during off-peak hours, promoting electricity consumption when demand is lower.

  • No boiler required: These heaters eliminate the need for a boiler, which is often associated with high initial costs, an advantage in homes without existing central heating systems.

FAQs

The duration for implementing energy efficiency measures varies based on the type, complexity, size of the property, layout, and other environmental factors. While some improvements can be completed in a few hours to a day, more complex installations like ground-source heat pumps may take longer.
